[Vancouver, BC] – March 21, 2024 – The KidSafe Project Society is thrilled to announce its Pancake Breakfast event on March 21, 2024, to raise community awareness. The event promises a delightful morning filled with delicious pancakes, friendly competition and community building.

The KidSafe Project Society has been serving children and families in Vancouver for over 30 years. It was 30 years ago that they responded to a community tragedy and opened doors to provide a safe and nurturing space to children who need it most.

The KidSafe Pancake Breakfast is an annual tradition to raise community awareness and support. The first Pancake Breakfast was held in the Spring of 1996 when Vancouver Mayor Phillip Owen proclaimed Spring Break 1996 “The KidSafe Project Week”. Community members, volunteers and supporters will enter to compete in the pancake-making and design contest. The Pancake Breakfast will occur during our Spring Break programs, where 300 kids will attend programs across seven Vancouver school sites.

"Every year, the Pancake Breakfast at KidSafe signals the beginning of our Spring Appeal, during which we aim to raise funds for critical break programs," said Kerrilynn Sweeney, Director of Development at The KidSafe Project Society. "Spring Break is usually a time for family fun and travel, but for children facing barriers, it can be a scary time. They may not have access to enough food, a safe place to stay, or activities to keep them occupied. In Vancouver, a child's access to quality child development opportunities is dependent on their family's income. Out-of-school programs are scarce in less affluent areas, and the waitlists for affordable facilities can be as long as two years. This leaves parents with limited options but to leave their children to self-care during school breaks. At KidSafe, we open our doors during Spring Break to offer a safe space for kids to come and be kids. It’s an important time of year to help us raise funds for our crucial programs and services.”

The Pancake Breakfast is by invitation only. Additionally, the KidSafe Project Society welcomes donations from those unable to attend the event but still wishes to contribute to the cause to reach our goals for funding programs. For more information, you can visit their website at kidsafe.ca.
