Youth Programs

Young Leaders Program

Young Leaders is an 8-week leadership mini-program that serves referred youth in grades 6-7 who are enrolled in KidSafe’s Summer Break Program.

Led by a team of caring adult mentors, Young Leaders engages youth in specific workshops and field trips designed to develop leadership and positive peer relationship skills, prepare youth for high-school transition, promote citizenry, and increase job readiness.

Young Leaders strive to build connections between other services and organizations in the community for the youth who attend the program.

YouthLink Program

Watch this space for exciting changes happening with this program.

Through YouthLink, we have provided:

  • A Youth Worker to work 1:1 with each youth to develop an integrated support plan

  • Referral to free spaces in external community programs and social services that meet each youth’s unique interests and needs

  • A monthly transit pass to help youth access programs and services regularly.

  • Help connect participants with extracurricular activities and help pay for any associated fees and equipment (e.g. basketball shoes, dance classes, musical instruments, art supplies etc.).

A special thanks to RBC Foundation for generously granting us $10,000 to fund 21 full-time positions for youth aged 15-18 in our 2021 Summer Break Program

  • Volunteer Opportunities

For interested and qualified young leaders, they have the opportunity to become youth volunteers through the Young Leaders program. The Youth volunteers give back to future generations during our break programs.

  • Facilitated workshops

Onsite workshops and sessions allow the young leaders to step out of their comfort zones and be exposed to different extra-curriculars. In summer 2021, we are grateful for visits from:

    • Immigrant Lessons dance

    • Queer Community Collective

    • BC Community Alliance

    • North Shore Restorative Justice

  • Field trips

In summer 2021, the young leaders developed new skills and stepped out of their comfort zones with a visit to WildPlay and Stable Harvest Farms.

  • "It means a lot to have someone to talk and share your thoughts to."
